About The Sydney Surf Group

STOKE EQUALS HAPPINESS AND MUCH MORE

It seems that the vast majority of members are beginners. That's so cool because you have picked the most mind blowing sport ever!

The reality is that you can go and have a surf lesson to get the basics, but then you're on your own. What do you do next?

Well...the best way to progress as a surfer is to go out with buddies. It doesn't matter if they're at your level or above: they will encourage you, laugh at you, give you tips and push you to keep going.

But you must keep going, because you can't learn to surf in a few lessons. If you're an adult, it's going to take at least one session a week (three is best) to make good progress. After about 52 sessions, you should be well on your way.

Sounds daunting, but I promise you that when you are able to pop up, turn the board, do a bottom turn, swoop up to the lip...you will enter a whole new universe. Ha, I sound like a hippy :)

This group is about hooking you up with buddies, going to new surf breaks, talking boards, videos, mags, cameras, camping, laughter, drinking...and much more.

All you have to do is be social. Start by sending a reply to each meetup request. If the day and time don't work for you, propose your own.

Please, for the love of surfing, don't be passive, get involved!

Here's Alice, a 'stoked' member of the group surfing at her local break. Read her account of the session here.

This is a video of me surfing up at Noosa during a great swell event. To some extent, I reckon it captures the 'stoke' I felt during and after the session. Read my account of the session here.
