Introduction
I moved from Melbourne to Sydney and decided to dedicate as much free time as I could to learning to surf. Why wouldn't you if you lived in one of the best surf spots on the planet! Over five years later and I'm hooked 1000%. Not much beats surfing!
What skill level are you at (absolute beginner, beginner, intermediate, or advanced)?
On a longboard, I'm intermediate. On a shortboard, I'm a beginner.
What sort of surfboard do you have (short, long, foam, none)?
9' 6" McTavish Redline, 8' 6" McTavish Carver, 6' 6" Bear Fat Ass Wombat, 6' 6" Al Merrick Flyer II. The boards are listed in the order in which I surf them from frequent to once-in-a-blue-moon.
What sort of wetsuit do you have (spring, steamer, none)?
I've got a spring, steamer and sleeve-less wetsuit top. The steamer is expensive, but worth ever cent in winter. I've had two in six years.
How did you find The Sydney Surf Group? (Google, friend, promotion, etc)?
I took over the group in early 2009, but can't remember how I found it in the first place. Someone probably told me or I was just wandering through the Meetup groups for Sydney. Either way, I'm here to stay now!
Are you on the Manly or Bondi side of Sydney?
Manly side. I'd say 95% of my sessions have been on the northern beaches. Now I'm keen to explore whatever spot is recommended.

"I'm obsessed with surfing and started a diary to help me remember the journey. Mastering surfing is really tough and it gives me a great sense of achievement to go back over the journey. A year ago I moved the diary online for all to see."
